More colors for bigger imaginations. Crayon Rocks are uniquely shaped soy wax crayons designed to encourage young children to use the tripod grip—the thumb-and-finger grasp they'll eventually use for pencils and handwriting.

This expanded set includes 16 vibrant colors: 8 primary shades plus 8 coordinating pastels, giving little artists more room to experiment with color, layering, and creativity.

Created by special education teacher Barbara Lee with guidance from occupational therapists, Crayon Rocks combine thoughtful developmental design with something wonderfully simple: letting kids make art.

16 Colors to Explore

This set doubles the palette of the Crayon Rocks starter set by pairing 8 vibrant primary colors with 8 coordinating pastel shades.

The expanded range gives children more opportunities to explore light and dark colors, experiment with combinations, layer their artwork, and—most importantly—just have fun making things.

Why Are They Shaped Like Rocks?

The distinctive pebble shape isn't just cute. It's at the heart of the Crayon Rocks design.

Founder Barbara Lee spent years as a special education teacher working with children who struggled with handwriting and fine motor control. Through her work with occupational therapists, she learned about the importance of developing a tripod grip—using the thumb, index finger, and middle finger to control a writing tool.

When Barbara couldn't find a crayon designed around the way young hands develop, she decided to create one herself.

The compact shape encourages children to pick up and manipulate the crayon with their fingers rather than wrapping their whole hand around a traditional long crayon.

Learning Through Art & Play

There's no need to turn coloring time into an exercise.

Hand them some paper and let them scribble, draw, experiment, and create.

The crayons' shape allows small fingers to make large, wide strokes, while their vibrant pigments create a rich, textured look similar to an oil pastel.

It's creative play with thoughtful design built right in.
